Sudden Explosion Of Huntsman Spiders

We’ve seen quite a few people requesting more information from us about a little surprise lately in their bathrooms and lounge rooms baby spiders! We completely understand how shocking it can be to wake up and find these little dudes chilling around.

They’re probably huntsman spiders. They can look a little intimidating with their long brown legs and fuzzy body, but worry not  they’re harmless!

As temperatures drop, huntsman spiders often start to enter homes  and they can even catch a ride in your car. They like to curl up in small places, such as behind your sun visor, so you may see them there as well.

The bright side, at least, is that these spiders are beneficial! But they keep pesky cockroaches at bay, so they’re doing more good than harm.

If you see one and it catches you off guard, breathe deep! If you find them on the ceiling when you wake up or return home, the easiest solution is a quick spritz with any fly spray you’ve got on hand. It takes just a gentle mist! Once they fall, they’ll be on their way out, so if they skitter under your couch, don’t worry  they’ll handle themselves.

To keep your space spider-free, we recommend a few simple steps: 

• Clean out your gutters

• Trim any large trees that are close to your home

• Seal up any cracks or gaps

• Clear away any leaf debris

• And maybe park your car a little further from those big trees!
